Pop up Parks is a global movement that supports, shares and implements projects that invite people to be more playful and creative in urban environments. Pop up Parks improve communities by bringing people together to improve their surroundings through simple, creative and rapid changes to the built environment.
The concept was founded by Tom Doust, Jack Roche and James Sale who lead a pilot programme in London within a number of communities with high populations living in densely populated housing, working directly with families with children under five in low socio-economic areas.
I was responsible for design, marketing and user experience across all of Pop up Parks’ activities including:
- Originating and developing the user experience strategy and development of a service map.
- Design and guardianship of the Pop up Parks website and social media sites.
- Writing and publishing of online news stories, campaigns and eNewsletter.
(eNewsletter regularly achieved twice the industry average for opens and over three times the industry average for clicks). - Originator and guardian of the Pop up Parks visual identity, inc. vehicle livery and uniforms.
- Recruitment and training of staff.
- Collecting, reporting and responding to evaluation data (quantitative and qualitative).
One of three founders of Pop up Parks, I am very proud of our success in winning the Knee High Design Challenge, securing over £140k of funding from the Design Council and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.
The project developed with the support of Helena Rice, Lisa Price and Laura Blake, working in 25 community locations and with cultural partners including Southbank Centre and The Barbican in London.
