The Sorrell Foundation

Project Manager for Joinedupdesign for myplace and Design Out Crime.

Design Out Crime:

Developed as part of a programme organised by the Design & Technology Alliance Against Crime, a joint Home Office and Design Council initiative. It explored issues that young people identify about crime, focusing on their experiences at school, on journeys to and from schools, and in the community. The project established communication routes with policy-makers for young people’s voices to be heard, and provided insights that can help develop briefs for designers.

Project locations: Basildon, Bolton, Bradford, London, Nottinghamshire and Merthyr Tydfil.

Joinedupdesign for myplace (pictured):

Managed and facilitated 5 user-led youth centre design projects, supporting engagement with the young people involved, and ensured that the design of each youth centre fulfilled the needs of the local community. Young people were given the role of clients on each of the projects, and some of the UK’s top architects, designers and creative advisers were appointed to work for them. The client teams decided what was important for the architecture and branding of their centres over a series of workshops, inspirational visits and meetings with their creative teams, before presenting the final concepts to their bid teams and stakeholders.

Project locations: Bath, Brent, Bristol, Hastings and Torbay.

Working in partnership with: Fielden Clegg Bradley, Urban Salon, SHH, Stride Treglown, Jonathan Dunn Architects, Graphic Thought Facility, ArthurSteenHorneAdamson, Spy Studio and Rob Andrews.
